Dear Hooper Parents, Faculty and Staff:
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce we have hired Dr. Liz Norman as our new headmaster. Dr. Norman earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and History Education with a minor in French. She has a master's degree in English Education, and she is Nationally Board Certified in English Language Arts. Dr. Norman also holds a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership, Policy, and Law. Her dissertation was selected for the Dissertation of the Year award by the International Society for Education Planning (ISEP).
Dr. Norman began her professional career as an English and History teacher at Montgomery County High School. Her belief in supporting students both inside and outside the classroom led her to sponsor a number of clubs and activities. From the classroom, she was privileged to serve as an administrator at Robert E Lee High School and Floyd Middle Magnet School. After serving at those two schools, Dr. Norman was selected to lead Loveless Academic Magnet Program (LAMP). During her tenure as principal at LAMP High School, she worked with faculty to begin such innovative programs as a student mentoring program, Lunchtime Lecture series, LAMP camp for new students, and a student recognition program. Additionally, she worked with community partners to secure grants and additional funding for the school. Before the close of her tenure at LAMP, the school was named one of the best high schools and best magnet schools in the nation.
After leaving LAMP, Dr. Norman has worked in the Montgomery Public Schools Central office with a variety of programs including the magnet program, Advanced Placement, fine arts, English, and project based learning. Dr. Norman also spearheaded the implementation of the International Baccalaureate in three schools.
Dr. Norman has two wonderful family members already attending Hooper, a son in K-4 and niece in 4th grade. She is looking forward to working with the Hooper faculty, parents, and students. We anticipate Dr. Norman will start her new position in March or April after she completes several ongoing projects at MPS.
The Board and PTA are in the process of scheduling a reception to introduce Dr. Norman to the Hooper family. A date and time will be announced soon. We encourage you to come meet Dr. Norman and ask questions.
The Board would like to thank Mrs. Anderson for the superb job she is doing in her role as interim headmaster. Once Dr. Norman begins, Mrs. Anderson will resume her normal duties as Assistant Headmaster and Guidance Counselor.
